March 15 Work Session

Newton Dog Park Project (NDPP) had the pleasure of meeting with our Newton City Commissioners to discuss the dog park today! Also attending were City Staff members to help bring the Commission up-to-date on progress as well as NDPP supporter and fiscal sponsor, Caring Hands Humane Society and NDPP supporter, Newton Rotary.

Commissioners were supportive of the idea of a Newton Dog Park and seemed eager to hear details and understand what direction the project will move in. We discussed amenities proposed by the Newton Dog Park Project task force, estimates for those items from City Staff, as well as funding opportunities.

Going ahead, our intention is to fund-raise a large portion of the money necessary for the park. City staff will be getting firm amenity costs for us and looking into ordinances that currently inhibit the Newton Dog Park Project from fund-raising specific items (benches, shelters, etc) with the intention of our donors honoring a loved one or organization on a memorial plaque and naming rights on park areas.

The Newton Dog Park Project and its supporters will be meeting with the Commission during another work session mid-April. We hope that we will be given answers on if we will be able to fund-raise using memorial plaques and naming rights, among other details, so that we can begin to supplying amenity and fund-raising information to our eager supporters like you!

In the meantime, we welcome your support and comments! We are also accepting tax-deductible donations for the dog park, which you can contribute via the Donate button on the right hand side of the screen on the Newton Dog Park website.

Thank you!
